16 years ago, the Bagala brothers decided to use the built in microphone on their computer to record themselves playing Christmas songs on the out-of-tune piano in their living room, as a gift for their grandmother, and the spark was ignited. As the brothers grew up, attended music school, moved to NYC and became professional musicians, they put their newfound skills to work on a new Christmas album annually. As per tradition, this year’s album features collaborations between the Bagala brothers, as well as work from several other musicians and spoken word artists.
Produced in tandem with Charging Moose Media, Marcus Bagalà oversaw the recording sessions and mixed half of the album (as well as composed and arranged several songs). In shaping the album, Bagalà took advantage of the deep reserve of creative talent in the Charging Moose Media family to pull together an album that covers the genre spectrum from blues to hip hop, jazz, indie rock and country. While the album covers a lot of ground stylistically, Bagala and the other producers still manage to create a cohesive listening experience,by pulling from the homemade family tradition of the Bagalà brothers original albums.
“As evidenced by the 16 years of Christmas music that me and Sam have been producing, we absolutely love holiday music.” Bagala says. “We hope that some of that love comes through to folks who listen and we get to share a little bit of the joy we all had making this thing”.
